A Message from Mari-Beth O'Neill
 
 
  Congratulations to the 2017 AKC Junior Scholarship Recipients! Criteria this year included documentation that the applicant has assisted a club at an event. This year scholarships were awarded to 24 Juniors with awards ranging from $2,000-$500. Recipients participated in Conformation, Agility, Obedience, Rally, Hunt tests, Field trials, Coursing and Earthdog.

The Junior Recognition Program has launched and AKC will be offering the Junior Versatility Award for the Top Ten Juniors. The Top Junior competing in three AKC events will receive a $1,000 Scholarship, Runner up will receive a $500 Scholarship and third place will receive a $250 Scholarship. 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Juniors Time To Shine
 
The Juniors Time To Shine is an event designed to showcase the talents of our Junior Exhibitors in Junior Showmanship, Obedience and Rally. Held at the St. Petersburg Dog Fanciers Association event on Saturday, June 17, 2017 in Tampa, Florida. Entries close May 31.

The Future of Pointing Breed Field Trials

Something unusual happened Memorial Weekend. I attended my first field trial 41 years ago and thought I had seen about everything but, this if not unique, is very uncommon. May 28, at the Central Maine Brittany Club trial, a first time handler took a ribbon. Not the usual first time handler. This sport has become majorly populated with gray haired gentlemen and a good showing of ladies, but few youngsters are seen. But, this handler by the name of Alana Day is 10 years old.

My dog, Biscuit, is 2 years old. I've been training in dog agility for a year, but he's really always been an agility dog. His favorite game as a puppy was "keep away", which he played all too often with socks, napkins, and even a cinnamon roll! I was interested in how fast he was, and how easily he escaped from me. So I decided to start training him in agility.

I am Hope Peavey from Fort Meade, Florida. I am 15 years old and live on a small ranch with cattle and horses. My passion for dog showing began with 4-H at the age of 8 where I competed in Obedience, Rally, Showmanship, and Agility. I began showing in AKC events in 2014.
