AKC in the News
The AKC/Eukanuba National Championship has drawn record numbers in its 15th year. An entry of 4,670 dogs will compete for the title of National Champion. When combined with other weekend events like the AKC Agility Invitational, the AKC Obedience Classic, and the Junior events, the overall show totals top 6,100 entries, making this the largest dog show held in the United States in the past 20 years.

Clubs in the News
Earlier this fall, the Conyers Kennel Club of Georgia, Inc. and Rockdale County (Georgia) Fire-Rescue (RCFR) invited the public to join them in celebrating the donation of a new AKC Pet Disaster Relief trailer that will serve their community in times of need. Learn more about how these two organizations worked together to make the trailer a reality. The donation was featured in the The Rockdale Citizen as well.

The Coulee Kennel Club also made the news recently when a reporter from the Winona Daily News photographed and interviewed conformation and obedience exhibitors at the club’s recent dog show. Check out the photos.

PR/Social Tips
Introduce the media to the people who make good stories. Don’t say “our club is great,” but rather “we have a club member who used Agility to overcome his battle with shyness” or “we have raised $5,000 for K-9 bulletproof vests.” Send a variety of news items throughout the year, not just a big release about your annual dog event. You can also submit calendar listings about your regular training classes, your annual awards dinner and more.
