A Message from Mari-Beth O'Neill

Congratulations to those who have met the eligibility criteria for the AKC National Championship in Orlando! In addition to the conformation Junior Showmanship there will be the AKC Juniors Classis for Obedience and Rally and the AKC Junior Agility Competition the weekend of December 16-18. I look forward to seeing you in Orlando.

Our next issue will provide you with additional information about the new AKC Junior Recognition Program, awarding points to Juniors competing in Conformation Junior Showmanship as well as Companion and Performance Events. In preparation, please include your AKC Junior number on all future entries to be prepared for the implementation of this program.

Three former Juniors competed successfully on the AKC/USA World Agility Team. The 2016 event took place September 22-25 in Zaragoza, Spain. Congratulations to Jennifer Crank, Kathleen Oswald and Graham Logen for earning positions on this team.

Shannon Loritz

I was born into the sport of dogs and am a third generation breeder, owner, handler. My mom, Margie Wilson, and grandma, Ann Serak, bred German Shorthaired Pointers under the Serakraut prefix for over 30 years. My love for dogs started on my grandma’s farm, sitting in the puppy pens daily and helping care for her dogs.

Maelynn & Troy

Maelynn, does 4H PetPALS therapy with her All-American dog, Troy. He is a Staffordshire Terrier/Boxer mix. He has his AKC Canine Good Citizen Title. They are working toward their first AKC therapy dog title and have 1 leg in each Beginner Novice Obedience and Novice Rally.

Opportunities for Juniors

Oregon Juniors

Every year Oregon Dog Judges (ODJ) offers the Margaret Braun Junior Showmanship Award to qualifying Oregon Juniors. This annual award is offered to assist eligible Oregon Juniors with their travel expenses to the AKC National Championship invitational show.

Central OH KC Annual Youth Award

The Club will award $1,000 to an eligible junior, under age 21. Qualifications for Eligibility Competing in AKC sanctioned events, e.g. conformation, obedience, agility, tracking or any combination of events.

Congratulations to Natalie Spinsby & Fire on their Gold medal win at the 2016 FCI Junior European Open in Slovakia today. They were the top team in Children’s Jumping Small out of 52 teams from around the world!
