New Masters Class Criteria
The AKC Board approved a revision to the criteria for eligibility to the Masters Class at the July Meeting. Effective October 7, 2015, the eligibility criteria for the Masters Class will be 10 Best Junior Wins with competition. Any questions regarding the revision may be sent to Juniors@akc.org.

Additionally, the AKC Board approved a revision to the eligibility to Judge Junior Showmanship to allow an individual with Limited Status approval for Junior Showmanship for all breeds in a group, to be eligible to judge Junior Showmanship at a Group Show of those breeds. This provides the club additional options to when assigning a Junior Showmanship judge.

I think that most of you know by now, that the AKC has a Weekly Wins Page on the website. For the most part, depending on the show facility, the Weekly Wins are put on the website live, day of show by the attending Executive Field Representative. If not day of show, soon thereafter. And if you have browsed the Weekly Wins page, you will see that the information for the Best Junior Showman is listed directly under Best In Show and Reserve Best In Show, in a very prominent location.

“FIRST GOES TO THE IRISH SETTER!”

I could not believe it when I heard the words….I had won Best Junior Handler at the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship. We all work hard to get there…we all hope to win…and then when it happens, it is just unbelievable. And, if you had known me years ago, it might have been even harder to believe.

My name is Rose Rubing and I am a 16-year-old junior handler. I live in Florida and I compete in dog agility with my dog Slick Trick, who is an All-American. He and I have been a team for five years now. I have been training in agility since I was about nine years old. My first agility dog was originally just going to be our family pet. His name is Kowabunga or "Bunga" for short. He is also an All-American rescue, who is very big. When we first adopted Bunga, my mom wanted me to learn how to train a dog responsibly and have good control over him, but she also wanted it to be fun. She searched for different ways to train dogs enjoyably. The most interesting and fun form of training we found was dog agility.

Hi, my name is Brianna Fryer and this is my Rat Terrier Jazzy. We have competed in American Kennel Club shows since January 4th, 2013. We train in Obedience, Agility, and Rally. We train two-three times a week. Right now we compete in Obedience and Agility. Jazzy and I first started dog training and showing with the local 4-H club. Since that day, we didn’t want to stop. Training Jazzy is always the highlight of my day. Since we live in Florida it gets very hot, even on the most miserable days it makes it not as bad when you spend quality training time with your best friend.
